Overview Of Spasmodic Dysphonia

Viruses and Pathogens:

The root cause of Spasmodic Dysphonia is a combination of a few things.  There is pathogens in the body, specifically a strain of Epstein Barr virus along with a strain of the Shingles virus.

We all have various viruses in our bodies even when we are not showing symptoms.

The Epstein Barr virus and the Shingles virus can stay dormant in our bodies for many years.   Often they are hiding out in the liver.   But over time, the liver becomes overburdened.  When this happens, the liver can no longer contain the viruses and they migrate to other places in the body like the thyroid and eventually the central nervous system.

In the case of Spasmodic Dysphonia, the viruses have begun to attack the vagus nerve.  Often when we experience trauma, or high stress for a period of time, the root hairs on the protective myelin sheath on the nerves stemming from the vagus nerve, become frayed.  It is like a string of yarn.  The point where the root hairs come off the nerve allows a point of entry for the viruses to nestle into.  When this happen a chronic inflammation of the vagus nerve occurs.  The inflammation of the nerve prevents correct communication to occur between the voice and the brain.  That is what causes the malfunction of the voice.

Heavy Metals in the body:

In addition to the pathogens inflaming the vagus nerve, heavy metals also play a part in causing Spasmodic Dysphonia.  When mercury, specifically,  is present in the body, it can interrupt neurons and neurotransmitters in the brain from sending correct signals.  There can be a disruption of proper signaling, from a small speck of a mercury  sitting near a neuron.  Also, the metals such as mercury, supercharge the pathogens making their waste and excrement extra toxic and inflammatory to the nerves.  Having the combination of the Epstein Barr virus, shingles virus and and also mercury in the body is the lethal combination that is responsible for Spasmodic Dysphonia.

Stuck in Fight or Flight:

Another contributing factor to Spasmodic Dysphonia is PTSD and nervous system disregulation.  Often, leading up to symptoms of Spasmodic Dysphonia, there is a traumatic event or periods of chronic high stress.  When trauma and high stress occur, our neurons in our brain can get scorched and damaged due to the high heat generated, during the upsetting moments.  When this occurs, we can get caught in a neural pathway loop that keeps our nervous systems in a state of high alert.  We basically get caught in fight or flight.  Our nervous systems can’t relax and return into the parasympathetic state.  This further amplifies the issues of inflammation in the vagus nerve.  When in the fight or flight state, the vagus nerve is continuously activated and never gets a change to rest and repair.

Diet to propel healing forward for  Spasmodic Dysphonia?

We have to combat the pathogens by cutting off the food source.  The pathogens love to eat eggs, dairy, gluten, soy, corn, canola oil and pork.  We have to begin to eliminate those foods for a period of time.  Cutting off the food source for the pathogens, brings down the viral load in the body.  When the viral load is reduced, the nerves have a chance to repair.

In order to further repair the nerves, we also have to detox the metals (mercury) out of the body.  We can use a combination, of foods that , escorts the metals out of the body.  Things like celery juice, wild blueberries, atlantic dulse, cilantro (coriander), spirulina, barley grass juice powder, citrus, radish greens, and peppermint tea also help neutralize and escort the metals out of the body.  Using a combination of these things is important because they all act slightly different, and work together to fully get the metals out of the body.  Medical Medium has formulated a heavy metal detox smoothie that you can add into your daily routine to work on systematically remove the metals.  Here is the recipe for the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie:

2 bananas

2 cups frozen wild blueberries

1 cup tightly packed cilantro (coriander)

1 teaspoon spirulina

1 teaspoon barley grass juice powder

1 tablespoon atlantic dulse flakes

1 orange

1/2-1 cup water or coconut water

Blend together and enjoy!

In addition to removing the metals, we also need to feed the body plenty of foods that help rebuild and restore the nerves.  All fruit is wonderfully full of the nutrients needed.   But specifically wild blueberries, apples, dates, bananas, oranges, lemons, papaya, mango, pears, figs, berries, and melons are beneficial.  Vegetables are also an important provider of the minerals we need to rebuild neurons and neurotransmitters.  Leafy greens are super important and we need a large quantity of them for maximum healing.  Other important ones are potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, brussels sprouts, asparagus, artichokes, broccoli, cauliflower, and green peas.

Herbs are also a great way to incorporate minerals and antiviral and antibacterial help.  Plain celery juice is a powerful tool to help elevate healing.  In addition thyme tea or water is wonderful.  Aloe water is another important tool to promote healing.  Drinking these things daily will expedite healing.

Nervous System regulation, and rewiring the brain:

And lastly, we need to work on rewiring the brain and regulating the nervous system.  This requires a deep dive into our beliefs, thoughts, emotions and energy.  We have to learn ways to replace the negative thoughts with more elevated ones.  This leads to a better emotional state and higher energetic vibration.

When you find a negative or fearful thought looping in your mind, pattern interrupt it.  You can move your body, change your environment, go outside and put your bare feet in the grass, sing a song, do a dance, listen to some music.  You can do anything that snaps you out of the negative thought loop and elevates your vibration.

Once you have changed your thought and your state, you can become the observer of your previous negative thought.

  • Is it true?
  • Does the belief behind the thought even belong to you?
  • Is it always true?
  • Is there a chance that this thought is a lie your brain is telling you?
  • Our brain is always trying to protect us by pointing out all the possible danger and things that could go wrong.
  • It is up to us to keep those thoughts from running rampant.
  • When we can begin to lessen the amount of negative thoughts and emotions in our bodies, we can begin to heal.

Hacks to override the nervous system:

Also, learning hacks to override the nervous system when it is agitated is essential.  Doing deep breathing or box breaths is one hack.  Tapping or EFT is another technique we can use to regulate the nervous system and return into parasympathetic.  Simply giving yourself a hug is beneficial.  Communing with nature whenever possible also can be a vital way to help regulate the nervous system.  Earthing by placing bare feet on the grass is another idea.  And lastly, meditation can also be a powerful tool in helping the nervous system to calm down so it can heal.

Putting it all together: Our Energetic Frequency

This is an overview of the root causes of Spasmodic Dysphonia and the tools we can use to heal it.  When we take a mind-body-spirit approach to healing, we can truly heal all parts of us.

Combatting Spasmodic Dysphonia with nutrition, nervous system regulation and mindset/emotional work, we automatically begin to improve bodily function in all areas.

All of the things I discussed previously raise our energetic vibration.  Fresh whole foods, positive thoughts and emotions and a calm nervous system all put us in the sweet spot for healing.  As our energetic frequency rises, the pathogens, that like an acidic environment can no longer thrive.   And our immune systems are working at a higher capacity to rid the body of those viruses and bacteria.  Our digestion improves and we are better able to absorb the nutrients in food and eliminate the waste.  There are countless ways the body functions better in the higher vibe.

Starting a healing journey:

We have to begin our healing journey slowly with intention.  Small changes that we can manage over time are better than big changes that we can not sustain.  It is important to make little goals each week to begin to improve in all areas.  Once we master those goals, then we add more onto the list until we eventually master living in a higher vibe.

Change is hard.  We have to show ourselves more love and compassion than ever before as we implement the changes.  Doing things that you love to do is a great way to reward yourself along the day to day of this new healing lifestyle.

Healing takes time.  Patience is a new virtue that is essential to develop as well.

You will get there eventually.  Your job is to do 1% better today than you did yesterday.

You can have your normal voice back.  You just need to start to do the work it takes to reclaim it.

Blessings!

Cathy
